The Big Arrival!

Concluding 9 long months was the arrival of Mckenzi.  After being dilated  2 centimeters for a month, I was induced at 41 weeks because she just didn't want to come out.  Although I wanted to have a lite epidural, I had a reaction to the medication so they had to stop the drip.  My blood pressure was dropping too quickly and I was vomiting... a lot!  So they gave me a few shots of adrenalin in hopes of leveling things out.  I decided I would rather deal with the pain then deal with the nurses running around me panicking.  I had decided early on that anyone who wasn't completely calm could not accompany me in the delivery room. To my surprise, this rule didn't have to be enforced.  I honestly had a fairly pleasant experience going through labor.  It took me about 12 hours to dilate from a 2 to a 4, at which point my Dr decided a C-section was eminent.  However, my midwife asked him to let me labor for one more hour.  I'm so glad she did because in that hour I dilated from a 4 to a 9!  Thirty minutes later I was complete!  My midwife gave me an hour to "rest and descend", meaning I turned off the lights and tried to rest through the contractions as they worked their magic.  At about 9:30 pm (14.5 hours into labor) I began to push.  The room was almost completely silent (as I preferred it) accept for the occasional encouraging words from my family and the hospital staff. This process took about an hour and at 10:49pm she was out!  That's when the real pain began.  Stitching up the tears and episiotomy with no pain medication was not easy to sit through, but holding that healthy beautiful baby girl in my arms made it all worth it.  I laughed as she continuously stuck out her long slimy tongue at us.  Her full head of brown curly hair melted my heart.  She was 9.2 pounds, 21 inches of pure perfection!
